POLITICAL
SCIENCE AS A MINOR
Political science may be chosen as a minor to satisfy requirements for certain bachelor’s degree programs with majors in other fields. This program consists of 18 semester hours in political science, at least twelve of which must be upper division. These upper-division hours should include one or more courses in any three of the following categories: (1) theory and methodology (2) American politics (3) comparative and international politics, and (4) public administration, policy, and law.
TEACHER
CERTIFICATION
In order to be certified to teach political science or social studies in the public schools of Texas, the student must meet state certification requirements. Courses to meet these requirements are offered by the College of Education and Psychology and may count as part of the electives outside the political science major. At least six hours of political science must be completed at UT Tyler with a minimum grade-point average of 2.0 in political science courses, including a 2.0 average at this university.
