OBJECTIVES
A major in Spanish fosters the development of analytical and communicative skills that uniquely prepare students of our increasingly diverse national culture and global economic system. The Spanish program offers language instruction at the beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels. Courses are also offered in the literatures of Spain and Spanish America as well as Hispanic culture. Upon completing the program, the student will possess a strong understanding of the language, culture, and literatures of more than three hundred million people worldwide. Careers may be pursued in a variety of fields including the following: elementary, secondary, and higher education; social work; communications; and government.

SPANISH
AS A MINOR
Spanish may be chosen as a minor to satisfy certain programs with majors
in other fields. This program consists of 18 semester hours in Spanish,
12 of which must be upper-division. Courses are selected by the student
in consultation with a member of the Spanish faculty.
TEACHER
CERTIFICATION
Candidates for elementary teaching certificates should pursue the Bachelor
of Science degree in interdisciplinary studies or a standard academic
major related to the Texas public schools curriculum. Candidates for secondary
teaching certificates should pursue a standard academic major. For other
