Certification Area: Social Studies (8-12)
Requirements for the Social Studies (8-12) teaching certificate include the professional education courses listed above and the content course requirements for the Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science degree in history or the content course requirements for the Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science degree in political science. Additionally, courses from the areas of economics, geography, and sociology are required (see below). See an advisor in the Department of History, the Department of Political Science, or the Department of Social Sciences in the College of Arts and Sciences for specific degree requirements. A minimum grade point average of 2.0 in all specialization courses, including a 2.0 at UT Tyler is required. Prospective teachers must achieve a grade of "C" or better in all courses leading to certification. For further information regarding certification, see an advisor in the School of Education.
