To serve as the focal point of entrepreneurship education, research and outreach within the College of Business & Technology, across the university and the business community. Addressing all aspects of entrepreneurship, EI2 will have a special focus on women and minority entrepreneurs.

The institute supports all disciplines at UT Tyler as well as entrepreneurs and innovators outside the university by providing the business expertise necessary to bring product ideas and businesses to market and grow existing businesses.

Academic Components

Entrepreneurship concentration within the management degree focuses on innovation and critical thinking with an emphasis on women and minority entrepreneurs.

The program will provide a connection to the community by bringing entrepreneurs into the classroom and placing student interns with existing businesses.

Entrepreneurship students will work with others across the university and the community to develop a business plan for new business, product or service ideas.

EI² will operate a “business plan” competition, open to the campus and community, featuring technology product ideas as well as non-technology products and services.

The program will feature an “innovation corner” (Maker Space) in partnership with the technology program with tools and equipment such as a rapid prototype 3D printer that can be used to develop prototypes.

EI² will be a synergistic partner with the Center for Family and Small Enterprises (CFSE) in the college. CFSE supports family and small businesses by providing a forum for education, resources, advice and counsel, networking opportunities and interactive programs.

EI² is a partner with the city of Tyler’s New Innovation Pipeline, a major initiative by the mayor.
