College of Business and Technology
Message from the Dean
June 1, 2009
Welcome to the College of Business and Technology (CBT). You are visiting the College at an exciting time as we experience a period of tremendous growth and change. For example, I have just joined the UT Tyler team as the Dean of the College. While I haven't been on board long enough to learn the ropes, I can share with you some of my early observations. First, my hat is off to Dr. Jim Tarter, the previous Dean, for the tremendous progress this College made under his leadership. Under Jim's leadership, the College experienced significant growth both in terms of size and reputation. We currently are the largest (and we believe the strongest) College at UT Tyler and expect to continue growing and improving.
The quality and productivity of our faculty have also increased dramatically over the last decade. Our faculty span a full range of business disciplines, ranging from accounting and finance, through management and marketing, to human resource development and technology. While our faculty excel at scholarship, basic research, and real world applications for the knowledge they create, our students continue to be the faculty's primary focus. Each member of our faculty takes pride in being an outstanding teacher. Our faculty and staff are committed to student achievement and success. The CBT prepares students to be graduates (and active alumni) who serve the needs of business, government, educational institutions, and not-for-profit organizations not only in East Texas, but the United States and many foreign countries.
Our students remain our pride and joy. We simply have a better group of young professionals than any other university in our region. We are currently in the process of examining our core values, our curriculum offering, and our student services to ensure that our undergraduate and master's students receive the best offering of educational products available. I know that we are doing a great job for our students now, but I am confident that our faculty will identify ways that we can do even better for our students in the future.
I invite you to take a closer look at the many facets of our College presented in the various links that follow. Be aware that we will be improving and updating our web pages throughout the academic year, so you may need to check back regularly to keep up with our progress.
We look forward to serving you and seeing you as part of our College.
