Teaching and Research Interests

Ms. Johnson’s primary teaching interest is career management strategies. Her extensive experience in business management provides her with a unique perspective for students about to enter the job market. Her focus centers on assisting students with developing their Professional Brand; and, transitioning that brand into an effective elevator speech, resume, and cover letter.

Biography

Ms. Johnson has taught management and critical thinking courses at The University of Texas at Tyler since 2005.  She has co-authored three books: Professionally Brandicapped? and A New Brand You; workbooks for professional brand and career maintenance, and !wontuoteg , a book that opens your eyes to clues to the personalities that can affect your professional brand and ultimately your career. 

Ms. Johnson was invited to present, A New Brand You - Recognizing and Communicating Leadership Through Your Professional Brand Values, at the June, 2012 National Conference of College Women Student Leaders (NCCWSL), at the University of Maryland; and 21st Century Technology for the 21st Century Student at the Texas Distance Learning Association (TxDLA) in  April, 2012. She was also invited to present at the City of Tyler, City University, Dress  for Success to Enhance Your Professional Brand in October, 2012.

She is currently working on two research papers: “Professional Branding as a Career Management Strategy”; and, research to examine methods used to provide students with a capstone course that combines the major elements identified by career management professionals as effective in improving a student’s success in obtaining their first career position post-graduation.

Ms. Johnson served as 2011/2012 President of the Tyler Branch of  the American Association of University Women (AAUW), and was appointed by the Wage Project & AAUW National, as the State of Texas Field Manager for the $tart $mart Negotiation Skills Workshops. She was also honored at The University of Texas at Tyler Athletics Department 2011-2012 Student-Athlete Awards Luncheon in April, 2012. 

In 2011, Ms. Johnson was recognized by the Cambridge Who’s Who Registry of Executives, Professionals and Entrepreneurs as a Lifetime Member.  She was awarded the AAUW Educational Foundation, Tyler, Texas Branch 75th Anniversary American Fellowship, and selected as the 2010/2011 “Professional Woman of the Year” by the National Association of Professional Women.
