Teaching and Research Interests
Dr. Astakhova’s teaching interests include Human Resources Management, Leadership, Organizational Behavior, and Quantitative Research Methods. Her research focus is on the areas of person-organization fit, job passion, and application of agent-based simulation to study organizational phenomena. Astakhova’s research has appeared in Human Relations, Journal of Business and Psychology, Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of Business Research, Journal of Managerial Psychology, International Journal of Intercultural Relations, and others. Two of her manuscripts were published in 2013 and 2015 Best Paper Proceedings of the Academy of Management and one manuscript received Best Poster award (2014) from the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology. She also published two book chapters on heavy work investment and organizational sustainability. The book Green Organizations: Driving Change with I-O Psychology, in which she had an invited chapter publication, became the winner of the Academy of Management Organizations and the Natural Environments Division's 2014 Book Award.
Dr. Astakhova began her business career as a business analyst with TACIS, the program, sponsored by the European Union, that aims to promote the transition to a market economy in the partner states in Eastern Europe and Central Asia. She then worked as an HRM specialist at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company. Professor Astakhova also spent 10+ years in the educational field teaching at the University level both in Russia and the U.S. She is a member of the Academy of Management, the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology, and the Society for Human Resource Management. Professor Astakhova was born and raised in Russia but lived in Ohio for 8 years. She began her career as an Assistant Professor at the University of Texas at Tyler in the Fall of 2012. She continues learning how to acquire the Texan accent.
