Teaching and Research Interests
Professor Avery’s primary teaching interests are in the areas of Operations Management and Management Science which includes supply chain, decision sciences, quality, project management, and production and planning. Her current research interests focus on global supply chains, specifically the impact of culture and social capital on supply chain practices and how they vary by countries such as China, United States, and Mexico.
Professor Avery began her career as an accountant and auditor. She then migrated to various operation management positions in the service industry; specifically back office operations of banking, insurance, and car rental organizations. She has over 20 years of practical management experience which she uses in the classroom. After leaving a successful career in banking, she completed a Ph.D. at the University of Texas at Arlington in Operations Management. She has taught at the University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma State University, Dallas Baptist University, and the University of Texas at Arlington. She began her career as an Assistant Professor at the University of Texas at Tyler in the Fall of 2010.
