Master of
Business Administration Online
The Master of Business Administration (MBA) Online degree is a general
management program delivered via distance education technologies. The UT TeleCampus, a
virtual campus dedicated to distance learning support services, facilitates
the design and delivery of the asynchronous collaborative degree program.
A consortium of the Colleges of Business and Technology at the following
institutions participate in the MBA Online program:
· The
University of Texas at Arlington
· The
University of Texas at Brownsville
· The
University of Texas at Dallas
· The
University of Texas at El Paso
· The
University of Texas - Pan American
· The
University of Texas of the Permian Basin
· The
University of Texas at San Antonio
· The
University of Texas at Tyler
All members of the consortium are accredited by the Southern Association
of Colleges and Schools to offer an MBA degree. The Colleges of Business
Administration at UT Arlington, El Paso, Pan American, San Antonio and
Tyler have AACSB-International Association of Management Education (AACSB)
accreditation. UT Brownsville and UT Dallas are in the AACSB candidacy
process.
All participating institutions have authority from the Texas Higher
Education Coordinating Board (THECB) to offer an MBA degree and to accept
the courses included in the MBA Online degree plan.
Purpose
As the size and diversity of the population of Texas increase, the
responsibility of the state to provide more opportunities for higher
education also rises. The MBA Online uses distance education technologies
to forward its mission to provide superior instruction and learning
opportunities to students from a wide range of social, ethnic, cultural and
economic backgrounds. The MBA Online program provides affordable advanced
education to students who might not otherwise be able to participate due to
a variety of reasons, such as work, family or geographical constraints.

Completed forms are sent to the Graduate Program Coordinator for approval
and submission to UT Tyler's Registrar for processing. The UT Tyler
Registrar bills the student for tuition and fees (approximately $600 per
course plus out-of-state fees, if appropriate) and forwards the IDEAR form
to the registrar at the campus delivering the course. By using the IDEAR
form, students enrolled in the MBA Online program do not have to be
formally admitted to all eight consortium schools.
MBA Online Support Services
The UT TeleCampus
is a virtual campus dedicated to support services for distance education
students and faculty within The UT System. It is comprised of eight virtual
buildings (Registrar, Student Services, Library, Classrooms, Faculty, K-12,
Information and Commons) which house various departments similar to those
found on a traditional campus. Some of the TeleCampus resources include an
online course schedule, digital library services, online bookstores,
learning and instruction resources, chat rooms, links to important
information at the component institutions (such as admissions, financial
aid, registration), and much more. MBA Online courses are built using the
TeleCampus tools which provides an interactive relationship between a course
and the TeleCampus which allow students and faculty to access course
information, such as syllabi, "lecture" material, tests and
grades through the Classrooms Building.
The UT System Digital Library
provides access to all of the digital resources for each university. It
includes links to the universities' library information (website, catalog,
and contacts), as well as an information literacy tutorial and an extensive
listing of reference resources, databases, and news sources.
The MBAO program is administered in accordance with the MBAO
Handbook of Operating Procedures and under the guidance of the Academic
and Executive
Committees. Committee members are representatives from each of eight UT
Campuses that participate in the MBAO program.
In addition to the online MBA program, The University of Texas at Tyler
offers an on-campus program and a joint MBA and
Masters of Nursing Science (MSN) degree program. The University of Texas at Tyler
provides information on these other programs.
