Scholarships for Study Abroad
UT Tyler awards scholarships to qualified students based on the availability of funds and the number of applicants. All application forms for UT Tyler Study Abroad Scholarships should be submitted to the Center for Global Education via email at cge@uttyler.edu.
UT Tyler Scholarships
Dorothy Bradley Brown International Studies Endowed Scholarship
- Awards range from $500-4,000
- Application deadlines: November 12 (for spring semester) and March 1 (for summer/fall)
- Award announcements are made by December 1 and April 1 of each year
- UT Tyler undergraduate or graduate students may apply
- Students must be enrolled in appropriate UT Tyler travel/study course(s)
- Student must be participating in a UT Tyler-sponsored program; students participating in any other study abroad program (including those programs run by the University of Southern Mississippi) are ineligible for this award
- Open to students in all areas of study
- Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
- Applicant must have junior standing (60 hours) or higher
- Applicant must demonstrate a seriousness of purpose, academic accomplishments, and leadership abilities
- Applicants must submit an application form, an official transcript, and a brief essay (250 words) explaining the reason for aspiring to study abroad
- Applications will be reviewed by UT Tyler’s Intercultural Affairs Committee
- Successful applicants will be notified by the Center for Global Education
- Scholarship is non-renewable
International Education Fee Scholarship (IEFS)
- Awards range from $300-1,500
- Application deadlines: November 12 (for spring semester) and March 1 (for summer/fall)
- Award announcements are made by December 1 and April 1 of each year
- UT Tyler undergraduate or graduate students may apply
- Students must be enrolled in appropriate study abroad course(s)
- Open to students in all areas of study
- Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 for undergraduates, and a GPA of 3.0 for graduate students
- Applicants must submit an application form, an official transcript, and a brief essay (250 words) explaining the reason for aspiring to study abroad
- Applications will be reviewed by UT Tyler’s Intercultural Affairs Committee
- Successful applicants will be notified by the Center for Global Education
- Scholarship is non-renewable
Scholarships from Other Resources
Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program
The Gilman Scholarship Program offers awards for undergraduate study abroad and was established by the International Academic Opportunity Act of 2000. This scholarship provides awards for U.S. undergraduate students who are receiving Federal Pell Grant funding at a two-year or four-year college or university to participate in study abroad programs worldwide.

Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grants
Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grants are designed to help support undergraduates as they seek knowledge and experience in their academic fields by studying abroad. Fifty $1,000 grants are awarded each year.
Two Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grants have been endowed by generous donors.
