Seminar Topics

 

The Student Counseling Center and Wellness and Prevention Education Services extend outreach services in the form of workshops, seminars and classroom presentations for faculty, staff and student organizations.  Listed below are a variety of seminars offered to the University community.

 To request a seminar, please complete the “Workshop Request Form." and fax to 903-565-5673 or send via campus mail to Student Services in ADM 360. 

The Student Counseling Center and the Wellness and Prevention program will also consider requests for special topics as is applicable to the presenter’s area of expertise and availability.

Community

 

Volunteer Opportunities in Peer Education – A broad look at community opportunities available to students through the peer education programs. Discussion and information from community organizations such at Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), the East Texas Crisis Center (ETCC), and People Educating Communities About Tobacco (PECT). QPR-Suicide Prevention - Anyone can learn to offer hope and help to individuals who are considering suicide! This 1.5 hour training uses the concepts of Question, Persuade, and Refer to teach basic concepts of suicide prevention. Alcohol Awareness  -  Interactive program using student feedback “clickers” that addresses drinking norms, addiction, Why 21?, alcohol poisoning, sex under the influence, and drunk driving. WP800K

Hooking Up or Sexual Assault - Interactive program using student feedback clickers addressing student perceptions of the "Hook Up" culture, BAC, alcohol poisoning, bystander intervention, consent, and information on our Campus Assault Response Effort program. WP801K

Being Your Own “Best Friend” -  Are you worn out from taking care of everyone else’s feelings and don’t have time for yourself? Do people take advantage of your willingness to help out? Intrusive Contact - An interactive presentation that addresses issues related to unhealthy boundaries, stalking, sexting, and other forms of unwanted contact. WP802K

Safety Net Training - The 2 hour "Safety Net" program is designed to train faculty, staff, and students on response and referral skills for victims of assault. These trained "Safety Net" members will be known in their departments as a first contact who is a safe and knowledge-based resource on campus.  The members of this group will be required to keep all information shared by a victim confidential.   WP803K
