Dear friends,

Welcome to the online home of the UT Tyler Cowan Center. If you loved last season, get ready – this year you “Gotta Have It” – again! More stars and more sensational shows are headed to the stage of the UT Tyler Cowan Center in our 2008-09 season. The new season offers a variety of performing arts, dance, Broadway, music and lecture events to audiences of the East Texas community, including star turns by cultural and performing arts icons like Martin Short, Olympia Dukakis, Ruben Studdard, Ted Neeley and violin virtuoso Itzhak Perlman. The new season is the twelfth at the Cowan Center – proving again why it is often referred to as “The Cultural Center of East Texas.”

We love serving you and appreciate your input and feedback. Remember that buying season tickets gives you first seating priority, the right to renew your seats, and discounted prices. Thank you for buying a package – or buying it all!

Susan

All the best,
Susan Thomae-Morphew
Cowan Center Director

VISITING THE COWAN CENTER
The Cowan Center is located on thecampus of the University of Texas at Tyler, approximately 90 miles from Dallas and Shreveport, Louisiana. In Tyler's southeast corner, the campus is easy to find. Just exit Loop 323 onto University Blvd. (Spur 248), then head east on University Blvd. until you get to Old Omen Road (approximately 2 miles). Take a left onto Old Omen Road and you will see the main entrance to the campus on your left (approx. 1/2 mile). Then, follow the signs to the Cowan Center.

PARKING
Parking may be difficult to find near curtain time. Please plan to arrive 30-45 minutes prior to each event to ensure that you are in your seat before the curtain rises. For early patrons, concessions will be sold in White Lobby and in some cases, short performances in the Braithwaite Recital Hall beginning at 6:45 PM.

Can children come to performances?
Ideal ages for our events are elementary school age, 5 and up. Can your child sit still and be quiet in a movie for 2 hours and not get up? (This policy is to ensure a wonderful arts experience for all patrons.) Keep in mind that for ticketed events, each person entering the theater must have a regular price ticket, regardless of age. Also remember to check with the box office for age appropriateness.

May I bring a Camera?
Sorry, copyright laws prohibit photography of any kind at most of our performances. This includes pictures with cell phones.

Someone next to me distracted me during the entire performance, what can I do?
If someone is disruptive please inform an usher, so that we may ask them to step out into the lobby areas.

Where do I park?
Parking is available in lots at either side of the facility. Remember that we are a public university and parking lots fill quickly on weeknights. We recommend you arrive early for performances. We ask that you please be courteous of the police officers that are directing traffic, as they are there to assist you. The Cowan Center also offers valet parking for $10 per car at the door. If you plan on utilizing the valet parking, please arrive around 30 minutes prior to the event.

Attending a Performance
Remember, silence is golden when it comes to cell phones. As a courtesy to performers and those seated around you, please turn off all pagers, watches and alarms, beepers and cell phones prior to the performance. Please refrain from text messaging, photography and videotaping with cell phones or other devices. It isn’t over till it’s over. A quick departure is noticed by everyone in the audience and especially by the performers on stage. Leaving early also means you’ll miss any encores and curtain calls, which provide the most memorable moments in many performances. Please wait until the house lights go up before exiting for your safety and the respect of the performers and other patrons. Thank you for your consideration.

WE LOVE GROUPS!
Groups are especially welcome at the Cowan Center. There’s no better way to reward or thank clients, employees, civic organizations, clubs, religious groups, friends or whomever, than with a show-stopping performance at our venue. Groups of 20 or more get your group together and take advantage of the special discount tickets. Group discounts are available for Series Events at the Cowan Center. Special events offer no discounts. For more information call the box office at 566-7424.
