UT Tyler Department of Computer Science

Students in the UT Tyler bachelor of science degree program in computer science acquire the knowledge, skills and experiences necessary for career success in a wide variety of computing environments.

Graduates of the program are well equipped to:

  1. Model, simulate and solve computational problems using appropriate theoretical and experimental methods, producing reliable and secure systems.
  2. Think critically and creatively, communicate clearly, work effectively with others and develop leadership skills.
  3. Integrate computational principles with social, business and ethical issues in modern society in the process of decision making.
  4. Professionally engage in serving the needs of business, industry, government and academic organizations.
  5. Grow professionally through activities such as graduate study, continuing education, professional certifications and participation in professional organizations.

 

Bachelor of Science in Computer Science - Admission Requirements

Upon a student’s admission to the Computer Science major, an academic advisor will be assigned to work with the student in planning a program to complete the degree requirements.  Transfer Students should complete the following lower division courses to meet prerequisites for Junior and Senior level courses. Students must earn a grade of C or better in each of the following:

COSC 1336 Programming Fundamentals I 
COSC 1337 Programming Fundamentals II
COSC 2336 Programming Fundamentals III
COSC 2325 Computer Organization  
MATH 2413 Calculus I    
MATH 2414 Calculus II  
MATH 2305 Discrete Mathematics  

Lab Science Sequence is also recommended. The sequence must be University Physics I & II, General Chemistry I & II, or General Biology I & II.  Introductory courses are not accepted.
