Dr. Hart has a Ph.D. in criminal justice from Sam Houston State University plus backgrounds in psychology and neuropsychology. She was involved in the early federal grants which established the FBI serial murder tracking program and has developed a specialty course in chronic or serial violence. She was also a senior researcher for the Texas Department of Corrections and brings her knowledge of institutional corrections to the classroom. Hart has testified as an expert witness in both Federal and State Court on issues involving prediction of violence, racial profiling and liability.
She has been at UT Tyler for over 25 years and has developed the criminal justice curriculum program according to the certification criteria of the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences. She was chair of the Department of Social Sciences for 15 years; she has served on the Faculty Senate several times; she is currently the criminal justice graduate program coordinator. She was a winner of the UT System Regents Outstanding Teacher’s Award, along with the Chancellor’s Teaching Award.
