UT Tyler Executive Master's: Emerging Fields in Public Relations
The ECOM program is taught in an executive cohort format across four semesters. An executive cohort means that students from diverse professional backgrounds in communications—public relations, journalism, advertising, marketing—come together to learn not only from experienced faculty, but also from each other. The cohort format helps build teamwork skills and results in career-long professional relationships.
You are admitted as a cohort and graduate together after completing 36 graduate hours over 16 months, which includes one summer.
With your cohort, you are enrolled in three courses (nine credit hours) per semester. Each semester begins with an intensive one-week on-site session in face-to-face classes with program faculty. During the rest of the semester, courses are completed online.
In your final class you will develop a project specific to your situation and interests.
Mid-career professionals in the ECOM program should already have the basics of communication theory and practice under their belt before they begin the program. Therefore, the program is aimed at those students seeking to enhance their training in the field, catch up with the advances in new media and communications technology and to prepare for advancement in their careers.
The curriculum is specifically tailored to address emerging trends in the field. Moreover, it offers students the opportunity to focus their reading, study and projects within highly specialized areas such as healthcare, public affairs or corporate communications.
Students will be exposed to a plethora of advanced tools and skills such as integrated communications, visual storytelling, brand journalism, social marketing, content marketing, metrics and analytics, cross-platform design, managing viral or word-of-mouth campaigns and content marketing.
