Master Degrees in Early
Childhood Education
Applicants for the Master of Education or Master of Arts
degree with a major in Early Childhood must
meet General
Degree Requirements of the College of Education.
Applicants must meet the standards
for admission to and retention in the program. Applications
for program admission are available in the Office of
Graduate Studies and the College of Education and Psychology
and should be completed and returned with all required
data.
A student may transfer a maximum
of 9 semester hours of graduate credit in which a grade
of "B" or better has been earned from approved
institutions. Transfer credit must be approved by the
student's advisor. Transfer credit cannot be approved
unless an official transcript of all transfer work is
on file in the Office of Graduate Studies. Transfer credit
should be evaluated and approved prior to the completion
of the degree plan.
Master
of Arts in Early Childhood:
Foundations: 6 hours
- EDUC 5301 Research Methods for the Behavioral Sciences
- Three additional hours of foundations course work with
advisor approval
Early Childhood Education: 15 hours
- EDEC 5340: Seminar in Early Childhood Education
- EDEC 5342: Development of the Young Child
- Nine additional hours in Early Childhood Education
selected with advisor approval
Support Area: 9 hours
- Nine semester hours must be completed outside the major
area
Thesis: 6 hours
- EDEC 5395: Thesis
- EDEC 5396: Thesis
Total Hours Required: 36 hours
Master
of Education in Early Childhood:

- A minimum of six semester hours must be completed outside
the major area. All courses must be approved by the student's
advisor.
