How do I get started in "STEP"?
Note: Any Texas resident with a minimum of a bachelor's degree from an accredited university is eligible for this program. Clinical experiences in a Texas Education Agency (TEA) approved school are required throughout the fall and spring semesters.

Request a deficiency plan. The deficiency plan tells you what courses you need to take to earn your teacher certificate.
To request a deficiency plan through the mail, complete a deficiency plan request form and send it to Ms. Virginia Fender along with a complete set of official transcripts from all post-secondary colleges or universities attended. After you receive your plan, it is recommended that you meet with your advisor prior to starting the program.To make an appointment with Ms. Fender for a deficiency plan or an advising meeting, contact her assistant, Ms. Cynthia Harris, mailto:charris@uttyler.edu or 903 566 7053.

When the university receives your admission materials, you will be contacted by the Coordinator of Admissions to Online Graduate Programs, Michael Giordano, for a brief telephone/Skype interview.

Students seeking EC-6 certification will adhere to all published deadlines for the
undergraduate program. (The EC-6 post-baccalaureate program is not delivered online.) -
Students entering the STEP program must adhere to deadlines listed below.
STEP Deadlines:
April 15 - (or Published Summer Graduate Admission Deadline) - Admission to the university
May 1 - First payment due
May 15 - Deadline for creation of a deficiency plan
June 1 – Begin STEP modules
July 31 – Deadline to pass content TExES by PACT: http://cms.texes-ets.org/epp/epppact/
July 31 – Deadline for admission to the School of Education STEP program.
