Educator
Preparation Program
|
Welcome
to UT Tyler's Educator Preparation Program. Our program has
prepared hundreds of teachers in East Texas and around the
state who consistently get rave reviews from their students,
parents, and administrators. Our teachers also have one of
the highest retention rates in the profession of any program
in the state. We're understandably proud of all the wonderful
teachers our program produces.
We're delighted that you're interested in becoming
a successful teacher by attending UT Tyler to study for a bachelor
of science in interdisciplinary studies (BSIS) degree leading
to certification to teach in prekindergarten through fourth
grade (EC-4) or in grades four through eight (4-8).
To
view one of our BSIS degree plans, please select "sample degree plans" under "Advising
Center" in the box on the left. This link will take you
to a page listing ten sample BSIS degree plans. The first six
are for individuals seeking to teach at the elementary-school
level, the next three are for students interested in teaching
at the middle-school level, and the final degree plan is for
those wishing to become certified as special education teachers.
You can view or print the degree plans that interest you.
Each
of our degree plans lists all the courses required for that
particular degree. This will allow you to see what courses
you will need in order to complete the program. These are,
of course, the courses you should select from when preparing
your class schedule each semester. Most of the courses listed
under "Core Curriculum and Academic Foundations" and
many of the courses listed under "Combination of Subjects" can
also be taken at a junior or community college.
If, after having had a chance
to look at these sample plans, you would like to schedule an
appointment to speak with an advisor, just call Gayle Ferrell
at (903) 566-7284 in order to do so. We would be happy to assist
you in any way possible.
Please follow these links if you are interested
in high
school or all-level teaching
certification. For advising in these areas, contact the appropriate university
department that teaches the subject you plan to major in.
The following links will provide you with scholarship
information, including details about our Junior
College Transfer Presidential Scholarship for qualified
applicants. We encourage you to take full advantage of these
opportunities.
Thank you for your interest
in our programs. We look forward to seeing you in the near
future.
