Instructional Technology

The instructional technology section of ETS provides instructional and program design expertise for the development and support of online courses and specialized educational programs.

The staff is available to assist faculty with the following:

  • creating online course content
  • online course instructional design issues
  • establishing optimal design of curriculum and instruction
  • managing online course instruction
  • effective uses of multimedia
  • professional and technical support and training
  • ADA compliance in online courses

Distance Education Resources

Illinois Online Network-This is one of the best places to start if you are considering taking your face to face (f2f) course online or even using online content to support a f2f course.

What does a high quality online course look like?”-This site lists excellent resources to help faculty take a f2f and convert it to an online format.

Instructional Design & Learning Theory”- This site is a comprehensive listing of the basics of instructional design and adult learning theories.  It is important when developing your course to know what kind of learners you have and what type of teaching style you prefer.

Pink Flamingo Resource Lists- This is an excellent resource for faculty.  It includes everything from pertinent research to examples and tips for online teaching.  Caveat: this is not the best color scheme for any online content.

Instructional Design for Online Learning”- This is a collection of websites that provide information on a wide variety of online course topics.

Online Teaching for Schools and Universities: The Louisiana State University (LSU) Model-This site demonstrates the same design model that is used by the Instructional Technology section of ETS at UT Tyler.  It can help you in every area of your course development.

United States Distance Learning Association (USDLA)-Excellent source for the most up to date research on distance learning.

Accessibility from elearnspace.org - Excellent resource that teaches a variety of ways to make your courses accessible to all students.
