JOB TITLE: Chair of the Department of Mechanical Engineering
DEPARTMENT: Mechanical Engineering

The College of Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Texas at Tyler invites nominations and applications for Chair of the Department of Mechanical Engineering.

The successful candidate must have an earned doctorate in mechanical engineering, or a closely related field; excellent communication and leadership skills; and a record of excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching, research, scholarship, and service. A demonstrated ability to develop a strong externally funded research program preferably in biomedical, energy or manufacturing areas. The candidate’s record of teaching, scholarship, and research should warrant appointment at the rank of full professor with tenure. Responsibilities of the chair include administrating the department and leading the growth of its programs; recruiting and retaining high-quality faculty and students; developing, maintaining, and promoting an environment of excellence in teaching, scholarship, and research; maintaining ABET accreditation; establishment of collaborative relationships with business, industry, and government organizations; and development of significant external funding.

UT Tyler, a component of The University of Texas System, is located in the beautiful East Texas lake country on the I-20 corridor about 100 miles east of Dallas and 200 miles north of Houston. JOB TITLE: MULTIPLE PART-TIME ADJUNCT INSTRUCTORS/PROFESSORS
DEPARTMENT: Department of Computer Science

STATUS: Active

Areas: Computer Science/Computer Information Systems

Location: The University of Texas at Tyler, Tyler, TX.

Start date: Spring 2014.

Duties and responsibilities: Teach a variety of courses in the subject areas. Assignments would be for the Spring and Fall Semesters. Classes could be at the UT Tyler Campus. Part-time faculty assignments are filled on an as needed basis utilizing this open and ongoing applicant pool. The number of available openings will vary from semester to semester. Qualified candidates will be contacted by the department should a vacancy arise.

Qualifications: MS or a higher degree in any area of computer science or computer information systems. A BS degree and six years of professional experience will also be considered depending on the areas of experience.

JOB TITLE: TENURE-TRACK ASSISTANT PROFESSOR
DEPARTMENT: Department of Computer Science

STATUS: Active

Position: Assistant Professor, 9-month, tenure-track.

Location: The University of Texas at Tyler, Tyler, TX.

Start date: Spring or Fall 2014.

Duties and responsibilities: The successful candidate will establish a strong, externally funded research program in areas to complement existing departmental strengths in symbolic computation, database systems, data mining, bioinformatics and network security. All areas of computer science and computer information systems will be considered; however, candidates with expertise in areas that complement departmental strengths are especially encouraged to apply. Participation in departmental, college, and university committees and outreach programs is expected; collaborative research with other faculty and institutions is strongly encouraged.

Qualifications: (i) Ph.D. in any area of computer science or computer information systems. (ii) Demonstrated research creativity and productivity. (iii) Ability to develop a strong research program. (iv) Evidence of effective teaching and other communication skills.

Available resources: The Department of Computer Science offers a stimulating intellectual environment and has an excellent reputation in research and teaching. Faculty members undertake research in diverse sub-disciplines, including symbolic computation, database systems, data mining, bioinformatics, network security and computer science education. Computer labs connect UT Tyler to the Texas Advanced Computer Center and UT Data Repository via a 10Gb internet connection. The renown UT Health Science Center At Tyler is located nearby for possible collaboration.
