TUITION EXEMPTION & WAIVER PROGAMS

Exemptions are a type of financial assistance allowing certain Texas residents to attend a public college or university in Texas without paying tuition, or in some cases, tuition and fees. Waivers pertain to certain students who are not Texas residents. Requests for tuition exemption or waiver must be completed prior to registration. Specific eligibility requirements under these provisions may be obtained from the Student Financial Aid Office or at www.CollegeForTexans.com.

Exemption and Waiver classifications include, but may not be limited to, the following:

EXEMPTIONS

Educational Aide Exemption

Adopted Students Formerly in Foster or Other Residential Care
Blind/Deaf Student Exemption Program
Children of Disabled or Deceased Firemen, Peace Officers, Game Wardens, and Employees of Correctional Institutions
Concurrent Enrollment Waiver (Enrollment in Two Texas Community Colleges)
Early High School Graduation Scholarship (for students who graduate on or after 09/01/2003)
Early High School Graduation Scholarship (for students who graduated prior to 09/01/2005 without the Recommended Curriculum)
Exemption for Highest Ranking High School Graduate
Exemption for Peace Officers Disabled in the Line of Duty

Exemption for the Surviving Spouse and Dependent Children of Certain Deceased Public Servants (Employees)

Exemption Program for Children of Professional Nurse Faculty and Staff

Exemption Program for Clinical Preceptors and Their Children

Military: Children of U.S. Military who are Missing in Action or Prisoners of War (MIA/POWs)
Foster Care Students

Military: Exemptions for Texas Veterans (Hazlewood Exemption)

Military: Texas National Guard Tuition Assistance Program
Senior Citizen, 65 or Older, Free Tuition for 6 Credit Hours
Senior Citizen, 65 or Older, Free Tuition for Auditing Classes
TANF Exemption Program

WAIVERS

Bordering State Waiver for Residents of Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico or Oklahoma

Effective March 31, 2006, UT Tyler is no longer eligible to offer the Bordering State Tuition Waiver. Students who are already enrolled under this provision may continue to receive the waiver. Please contact Meade Harbison in the Financial Aid Office, at (903) 566-7232, with questions regarding this change.
