Cody MizeStudent Name:  Cody Mize

Program: Master of Educational Leadership

Graduated: December 2010

Employer: Winona Independent School District

Position: Superintendent

What attracted you to this field?

I had teachers, coaches and administrators that had a huge impact on my life as a student. The example that they set for me both personally and professionally is someone I inspired to be.

Why did you choose UT Tyler?

UT Tyler gave me the opportunity to continue my teaching/coaching career and attend a graduate program close to my home.

What do you like most about UT Tyler?

The faculty and staff were excellent!  I have maintained those relationships and in my role as superintendent I have been able to work collaboratively with these individuals to help improve our local school districts.

What are your career aspirations?

My goal has been to serve as a small school superintendent. Now that I have achieved that, I want to make Winona ISD one of the premier public school districts in East Texas.

What is your work experience?

I have served in public education for 10 years. I have been a teacher/coach, high school assistant principal, elementary principal, high school principal, and now serve as superintendent.

Do you have any advice to pass along to other students interested in this program?

There is no greater honor than earning the right to become a teacher of teachers. The magnitude of the position is incredible when you think about how many lives you will impact. Also, the financial return on your investment in this program is great too!
