What attracted you to this field?

I have always enjoyed math, but it was also the stability that comes with a job in the accounting field.

Why did you choose to attend UT Tyler?

Being a commuter student, the location to my hometown was what had drawn me to UT Tyler.

What do you like most about UT Tyler?

The faculty. The professors at UT Tyler go above and beyond to see their students succeed. I have developed many relationships that have helped promote and further my career.

What are your career aspirations?

Gaining a position with a great firm was number one out of school, and then achieving my CPA license was soon to follow. Over the years in practice, my aspirations have evolved to become: promoting the integrity of the accounting profession, providing guidance and reporting for my clients, and assisting aspiring CPAs to achieve their goals.

What's your work experience?

I have been a licensed certified public accountant since 2016. My accounting career began with Henry & Peters in the Tyler office when I completed my Bachelors in 2012, but most recently transferred to their Longview office. My main focus as a tax practitioner has been with tax planning, reporting and compliance services for individuals, partnerships and corporations, trusts and estates. Industry concentrations include non-profit organizations, real estate, farm and ranch, and closely-held businesses.

Do you have any advice to pass along to other students interested in this program?

You really can’t pick a better school and major. The Master of Accountancy from UT Tyler is a great degree that offers flexibility for those who are working full-time with a top notch faculty that is fully vested in your success, both personally and professionally. Accounting as a career can provide diversity and stability like no other profession. There are an abundance of accounting jobs, that are well paid and rewarding. Tyler is also a great location and community. Working in public accounting for the past four years in Tyler and with my nearby hometown of Kilgore, I have been exposed to how great the economy of East Texas is and the growth potential.
