Program: Educational Leadership

Hometown: Corinth, MS (Currently live in Kilgore, TX)

Undergraduate Institution: I graduated Summa Cum Laude from UT Tyler with a BS in Interdisciplinary Studies

Graduation Year: 1999

Why did you choose to attend UT Tyler?

While researching several universities, I was invited last summer via social media to attend an informational meeting for the graduate program. I was impressed that not only were the admissions staff present, but the professors were also there. I was able to get a one on one overview of the program with a professor. Dr. Hickey answered all of my questions and encouraged me to begin the program right away. I applied and enrolled within a week.

What are your career goals and how does your graduate program support them?

I hope to advance my career to an executive director or assistant superintendent position in the near future. I also plan to complete an Educational Doctorate with the hope of one day teaching at the university level.

My current courses have been very enlightening and have provided excellent opportunities for hands on experiences that continue to develop my leadership abilities. I have benefited greatly from the insights provided by excellent instructors and a rigorous instructional program.

What do you like most about UT Tyler?

My favorite thing about UT Tyler is the feeling that my education matters to my instructors. I can e-mail an instructor and I get an immediate response. They also take the time for a conversation when you see them out in the community. I am a first generation college graduate. Now my youngest son, Scott, is also a graduate of UT Tyler. UT Tyler is a great place to get an education.
