Lindsey WhitakerStudent Name:  Lindsey West Whitaker

Program: Educational Leadership

Hometown: Jefferson, TX

Undergraduate Institution: The University of Texas at Tyler

Graduation Year:  2009

Why did you choose to attend UT Tyler?

I had such a wonderful experience as an undergraduate student at UT Tyler that I really couldn't fathom changing schools for a graduate program. I was so impressed that my undergraduate professors at UT Tyler knew me by name, instead of a number, and I knew I could expect the same from a graduate program. I also like the online convenience of the graduate program, and the opportunities to learn from home while still being here for my child.

What are your career goals and how does your graduate program support them?

My ultimate career goal is to direct a state-wide program for Special Populations, but steps I'd like to take along the way include: working as a Principal of Curriculum and Instruction; working as an ESL facilitator for my district or region; and teaching at the college level.

What do you like most about UT Tyler?

My favorite thing about UT Tyler is that I can get a high-quality, honorable degree at a smaller, local university. I love that UT Tyler is way ahead of the game in academics, but not so big as to eliminate a personal education.
