What attracted you to this field?
I was attracted to public health because of the realization that my health and my children’s health have a direct correlation with the health of the general public.
Why did you choose UT Tyler?
UT Tyler was close to home, has great NCLEX success rates and a great program that is directed so the individual will achieve success. The graduate program was also close to home but was catered to full-time working adults who already have work experience in the health field. This hybrid program perfectly met my needs by having classroom time and the rest online.
What do you like most about UT Tyler?
UT Tyler has staff who care about the individual student, who work extraordinarily hard to assist the student with success.
What are your career aspirations?
To continue to grow and master public health so I can help eliminate communicable diseases in our community.
What's your work experience?
I have a varied work experience including 7 years with Health and Human Services, 4 years as a Medicaid biller in an outpatient mental health clinic, 1 year as a correctional care nurse, 3 years as a psychiatric nurse and 1.5 years as a Nurse Manager in the TB Elimination and Immunization division at DSHS.
Do you have any advice to pass along to other students interested in this program?
Work hard, study hard and reach out to your instructors if you are struggling, form a reliable study group and never give up.
