Getting Settled Post-Admission
So you just received your acceptance letter – congratulations! Now what? Your next steps are outlined below. Some are required, some are optional, but all will help make your time at UT Tyler successful and exciting!
Activate your Patriots Account
Once you are admitted, you will need to activate your Patriots Account through Patriots Sync. Any post-admission communication with the university needs to be conducted through Patriots Email to ensure the university is upholding federal law enforced by the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
Receive a Form I-20
Newly admitted international students should email International Student, Scholar, and Faculty Services (ISSFS) at ISSFS@uttyler.edu to complete the I-20 process.
Apply for Financial Support
The University of Texas at Tyler is proud to provide financial assistance to as many qualified, admitted students as possible. Please refer to our Financial Support page for details about those opportunities.
Find a Place to Live
Choosing to live on campus at The University of Texas at Tyler will make your college experience even more well-rounded, convenient, and fun. If preferred, students are welcome to live off campus, though UT Tyler cannot guarantee the quality or performance of unaffiliated housing.
Consult Your Academic Advisor
Your academic advisor can help guide you through your degree plan to make sure that you are on the right track to graduation. You can find the contact information for your program’s advisor by selecting your major from our list of graduate programs.
Enroll in Courses
Students can enroll in courses through their myUTTyler account. The Office of the Registrar offers step-by-step registration tutorials on their website. Bills are posted a few weeks before the start of each semester, and you can pay through myUTTyler or our Cashiers Office. Don't forget - you must read and accept the terms of the Student Financial Responsibility Agreement located in your “To Do List” in your myUTTyler Student Center before your financial support will be packaged!
Buy Your Books
After enrolling, you can click the “Order Your Textbooks” button located on the right side of your myUTTyler Student Center to find out which books you need. Textbooks can be purchased or rented from the Campus Bookstore.
Joining a student organization can help ease homesickness, make friends, and get connected. The Graduate Student Association, for example, focuses on professional development, advocacy, volunteerism, and social collaboration for graduate students. We encourage you to browse a full list of student organizations on the Student Life and Leadership page.
Work On Campus
The Office of Career Services offers students the opportunity to apply for on campus jobs through Patriot Jobs. Available positions across campus will be posted there.
We want to make sure we meet your needs and expectations. How are we doing?
