Panhellenic Recruitment

What is recruitment?

Formal Recruitment is a week of activities where potential new members (PNM’s) have a chance to learn about each organization’s history, philanthropy, standards, and identity on campus while also having the opportunity to talk with current chapter members.  Formal Recruitment is a mutual selection process, where both the PNM and sorority hope to find the best fit for each woman.

What do you need to do to register?

There are several steps to complete in order to be fully prepared for Panhellenic Formal Recruitment 2010.

1)  Register with your local Panhellenic Association from your home town.

This association is comprised of local Greek alumnae that will help answer any general questions about recruitment and also connect with alumnae to write recommendation letters on your behalf.  Hopefully your high school counselor provided you with information about how to register with your hometown Panhellenic.  If not, please contact him/her and look for information on how to contact them online.  If you come from a small town without a Panhellenic Association, contact the nearest city to see if you can join them.  Either way, do not let this item be a stressor for you during your recruitment preparation.  If PNM’s do not have recommendation letters sent in on their behalf through a hometown Panhellenic Association, it is their duty as a chapter to find one for you.

2)  Register for UT Tyler’s Panhellenic Recruitment 2010 by clicking on the link on the home page and filling out the information online (link will be active beginning in May 2010).

3)  Mail or hand deliver your Recruitment Registration fee of $20 by the deadline (to be determined) and three (3) copies of a picture to:

Greek Life

3900 University Blvd. ADM 345

Tyler, TX 75799

Attn: Panhellenic Recruitment

Please make all checks out to College Panhellenic Council

These three (3) pictures will be given to each of the sorority recruitment chairs to use during recruitment to remember the faces of the girls that they met each day.

*** Please note that you must complete all of the above in full to be registered for Panhellenic Formal Recruitment 2010***

What are the requirements for joining a sorority?

In order to be eligible to join a sorority, you must meet the following requirements:

1)  Have a minimum 2.5 cumulative grade point average (GPA) in either high school or college.

2)  Be enrolled in 12 hours (these 12 hours can be divided between UT Tyler and TJC, but at least 6 hours must be taken at UT Tyler).

3)  Shall not be, or ever have been, an initiated member of an NPC fraternity/sorority.

4)  Shall not have been a new member of an NPC group at UT Tyler within the calendar year.

5)  Submit all registration materials as stated above no later than the given deadline for 2010 (to be determined).
