Shannon Hinsley
Shannon Hinsley, wrapping an athlete’s ankle in the UT Tyler athletic training room. As a student athletic trainer, completing 1800 hours to qualify to take the State of Texas licensing exam for Athletic Trainers, Shannon counted part of this experience as her internship credit. She plans to continue her education this fall with the UT Tyler Health and Kinesiology Department by beginning the curriculum for the M.S. Degree in Kinesiology. She completes her B.S. degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Athletic training in May, 2009. Shannon will be pursuing her M.S. Kinesiology degree from UT Tyler starting Fall 09.

Tynisha Vinson
Tynisha Vinson, studying EKG heart rate and rhythm
strips in Phase II Cardiac Rehabilitation at The Institute
For Healthy Living, part of Good Shepherd Medical
Center health system in Longview.

working with exercise programs for the general wellness
population and was focused on exercise rehabilitation
therapy for cardiac patients. She is currently working
toward her personal training certification through the
American College of Sports Medicine, and she earns her
B.A. degree in Health and Kinesiology in May, 2009. Her
plans are to attend Occupational Therapy graduate school
in spring, 2010. |

Kris Neely
Kris Neely (right), taking the blood pressure of a

Greg Maschal, ETMC Olympic Center Operations
Manager, Kris gained a variety of hands-on experiences
with fitness evaluations, exercise prescriptions, and body
composition analyses via hydrostatic weighing, just to
name a few. He also got to observe physical therapists
working through rehabilitation programs with injured
patients. Kris completes his B.A. degree in Health and
Kinesiology in May, 2009. |

Jason Kennedy
Jason Kennedy, reviewing 12-lead ECG heart rates and
rhythms from a patient who had recently undergone a
stress test in the ETMC non-invasive cardiology lab, where
he completed the majority of his internship work under the
instruction of Bruce Baker, R.N. He also got to spend
some observation time in the cardiac catheterization lab as

continued to pursue his B.S. degree in Health Studies,
despite serving in Operation Enduring Freedom in Iraq.
He plans to graduate in August, 2009, with hopes of
continuing his education with another B.S. degree in
Nursing beginning in the 2009, fall semester. |

Arthur Harrison
Arthur Harrison (right), with internship site supervisor,
Chris Koster, R.N., in cardiac rehabilitation at the Mother
Frances Health Park Plaza.

primarily worked in Phase I and Phase II rehabilitation, but
also assisted in pulmonary rehabilitation as well. Arthur
gained valuable experience in exercise therapy for clinical
populations. He would ultimately like to go into the field
of hospital administration, and plans to start his M.B.A.
degree at UT Tyler in the fall, 2009 semester. He
graduates with B.S. degree in Health Professions in May,
2009. |

Christina Edwards
Christina Edwards (right), with Kamish Floyd, school

of services provided by the Longview Wellness Center.

with a variety of East Texas agencies on community health
education projects and assisted in data health collection for
various family-focused programming. Christina finishes
her B.S. degree in Health Professions in May, 2009, and
will be moving to Crockett to start her career with the
Head Start program. |

internship allowed her to work directly in various aspects
of patient rehabilitation for orthopedic and head injuries.
She hopes to attend physical therapy school after
graduating in May, 2009, with a B.S. degree in Health and Kinesiology. |

Marielou Vidal
Marielou Vidal, reviewing rules and regulations of health
inspection protocol under the direction of Brenda Elrod,
Director of the Northeast Texas Health District.

experience concerning the expertise needed to become a
certified health inspection specialist and would like to
work in this field after completing her college education.
She graduates in May, 2009, with a B.S. degree in Health
Studies. |

PaToya Hall
PaToya Hall (far left), with the morning “gang” of

Christian Church in Tyler. Patoya learned the invaluable
role of mentoring cancer survivors on their road to
recovery through strength training and cardiovascular

graduates with a B.S. degree in Kinesiology in May, 2009,
and plans to work in the Forge Christian Leadership
Program, a division of Pine Cove, where she will be
serving the spiritual needs of U.S. residents and abroad.

Kelly Buchanan

Under the direction of Stephanie Webb, she was an
invaluable asset in assisting in strength and conditioning
workouts. She earns her B.S. degree in Kinesiology in
May, 2009, and will enter the M.S. degree program in
Kinesiology with the UT Tyler Department of Health and
Kinesiology in fall, 2009. Kelly was offered a Graduate
Assistantship with The Department of Health and
Kinesiology. |

Jessica Clark

learned how to implement training protocols for strength
and cardiovascular conditioning in patients who have heart
disease. She plans to graduate with her B.S. degree in
Kinesiology in August, 2009, and despite her invaluable
experience working in a clinical environment, she has
decided to pursue a career in coaching. |

Candace counted part of her experience as a student
athletic trainer with the UT Tyler athletic training
department toward her internship credit. To qualify to take
the State of Texas licensing exam for Athletic trainers, she
has had to accumulate a minimum of 1800 clinical practice
hours. She graduates in May, 2009, with a B.S. degree in
Kinesiology, emphasis Athletic Training. She has taken a
position as an athletic trainer with Stephen F. Austin State
University and will also be pursuing an M.S. Degree in
Athletic Training, beginning in fall, 2009. |

Stephanie Foster-Fuller
Stephanie Foster-Fuller, with internship supervisor, Steve
Basore, R.ph., at Anderson Drug, in Athens. Stephanie, a
certified pharmacy technician, provided several invaluable
services to the pharmacy including the organization of
Medicare accreditation requirements for durable medical
equipment, designing an emergency plan for all
prescription records to be made available to customers in
the event of a natural disaster (as required by OSHA), and
organizing of a diabetes screening and education program
for area residents. Stephanie receives her B.S. Degree in
Health Professions and hopes to attend graduate school in
the fall to become a Certified Physician’s Assistant. |

Chris Handy
Chris Handy (right), with TJC head basketball coach, Mike

currently an assistant soccer coach for TJC, but learned the
auspices of coaching a different sport in a college
environment for his practicum experience. Chris will
complete his M.S. degree in Kinesiology in December,
2009. He plans to remain in his current capacity at TJC
with aspirations to one day become a head soccer coach at
a 4-year institution. |

Rosalyn Floyd-Tindell
Rosalyn Floyd Tindell, with internship site supervisor, Dr.
Jim Schwane, Ph.D. Under Dr. Schwane’s supervision,
Rosalyn developed her department’s course curriculum for
the upcoming academic year. She will graduate with her
M.Ed. degree in Health and Kinesiology in August, 2009,
and plans to remain in her current capacity at Lon Morris
with aspirations to eventually move to a 4-year institution. |
