On
behalf of the faculty and staff of the Department of Health and
Kinesiology at
The University of Texas at Tyler,
I welcome you to our Web site and to our department. |

The Department
offers studies in the areas of health and kinesiology (the study of
movement or exercise) that prepare students for a variety of careers
in the health professions, education, and basic and applied sciences.
Since the founding of The University of Texas at Tyler in 1971, the
Department has been known for excellence in academic programs and scholarly
activities. The Department’s mission is to “responsibly
facilitate learning in the areas of health and kinesiology, emphasizing
competence, ethics, and altruism.” We take this mission seriously,
striving to provide students with rigorous and relevant curricula; excellent
teaching, laboratory, and clinical and field experiences; and personal,
caring attention. If our mission fits with your educational and professional
goals, we welcome the opportunity to work with you.
Health
care is a huge and growing part of our economy, and exercise and sport
are major factors in our culture. Therefore, opportunities for study
and employment in the fields of health and kinesiology are many and
varied. Our undergraduate students pursue bachelor of science degrees
in health professions or in kinesiology, or the bachelor of arts degree
in health and kinesiology. Graduate students pursue degrees in clinical
exercise physiology, kinesiology, and health promotion. Graduates of
our programs have moved directly into careers in various areas of health
care, teaching, coaching, research, and business. Still others have
used our programs as preparation for further education in graduate or
professional schools. Our graduates include physicians, physical therapists,
researchers, college and university faculty members, pharmaceutical
representatives, teachers, coaches, athletic trainers, public health
workers, and others. In short, the possibilities are almost endless!
I hope our Web site helps you get to know us better and provides helpful
information. If you would like additional information, please feel free
to contact me, or others in the Department. We look forward to communicating
with you, seeing you on campus (virtually, if not if person), and working
with you as you pursue your goals and dreams.
