Professional and Personal Interests

I was initially a faculty member in what was known at that time, the Department of Health and Physical Education at UT Tyler from 1975-1980. I then worked as an Associate Professor in the Department of Physical Education at George Willliams College before returning to the Department of Health and Kinesiology at UT Tyler in 1983. My primary research interests have been in the area of osteoporosis and the effects of exercise on bone mineral density. I have worked with 44 master's degree students in completing theses, 42 as principle advisor. I have been active in supervising clinical rotations at various clinical institutions, and also have directed several years of an outpatient Cardiac Rehabilitiation program. I and am now the Faculty Director of the Master of Science Program in Clinical Exercise Physiology. My personal interests include walking, the fine arts (especially opera), and sports.
