Programs
The
Department of Health and Kinesiology offers three graduate degrees:
Master
of Science Degree in Clinical Exercise Physiology - The purpose of the M.S. Degree Program in Clinical Exercise Physiology is to prepare graduates for careers related to clinical exercise physiology, including preparation to be American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) Registered Clinical Exercise Physiologists (RCEPs). Graduates will have a thorough theoretical base and extensive applied experience related to exercise programs in clinical settings. They will be competent in exercise testing and evaluation, exercise prescription, implementation and administration of preventive and rehabilitative exercise programs, and exercise-related health promotion and education. Students participate in activities in various clinical facilities and gain experience with individuals with a wide range of diseases and disorders.
Individuals are required to begin the 43-hour Clinical Exercise Physiology Program in the fall semester. Awarding of the Degree is contingent upon successfully completing a comprehensive examination. Completion of the American College of Sports Medicine Clinical Exercise Physiology Registry Exam fulfills this requirement.

of Science Degree in Kinesiology - The purpose of the Master of Science Degree Program in Kinesiology is to prepare graduates who have a sound, research-oriented understanding of exercise physiology and related exercise science. Graduates will be prepared for a broad range of careers in exercise- or sport-related settings, and for subsequent doctoral study in exercise science.

of Education Degree in Health and Kinesiology - The purpose of the M.Ed. Degree Program in Health and Kinesiology is to prepare graduates to initiate or advance careers related to education as applied to health, kinesiology and sport. This includes education in a broad range of settings, including traditional programs in schools, as well as wellness, health promotion, and sport programs in other settings.
Specific objectives of the program are:
1. Graduates will be able to critically read and discuss published research related to health and kinesiology.
2. Graduates will be able to discuss in writing issues related to health and kinesiology, identifying, analyzing and defending different viewpoints.
3. Graduates will be able to apply theoretical concepts from the health and kinesiology research literature to professional practice.
4. Graduates will be able to use computer technology to manage data, access information, and communicate effectively.
The program requires satisfactory completion of 36 semester hours of courses and a comprehensive examination. The curriculum consists of 18 hours of foundation courses and 18 hours of elective courses consistent with career objectives and selected with advisor approval. The M.Ed. Degree in Health and Kinesiology may be earned in the traditional on-campus setting or entirely via courses offered on the Internet.
