RA Selection
Residence Life is conducting the spring RA Selection Process to identify candidates who will be available to fill any RA vacancies that come open for the fall 2008 semester. If you are interested, just use the RA Application link to access a copy of the RA Application, fill it out and turn it and the references included to the Residence Life Office by the deadlines listed in the timeline.
RA Application Timeline
Wednesday, January 30, 2008: Applications for RA positions for the 2008/09 academic year will be available online at the UT Tyler Residence Life webpage.
Tuesday, February 5, 2008 at 7:30pm: RA Information Night at Patriot Village (Community Center).
Wednesday, February 6, 2008 at 7:30pm: RA Information Night at Ornelas Hall (Media Room).
Thursday, February 7, 2008 at 7:30pm: RA Information Night at University Pines (Clubhouse).
Wednesday, February 20, 2008: Applications are due in the Residence Life Office (UC 232) by 5:00pm.
Wednesday, February 20, 2008: All Reference Forms are due in the Residence Life Office (UC 232) by 5:00pm. All Reference Forms should be mailed or faxed from the references themselves. Do not turn in unopened reference forms with your application, they will not be accepted.
Monday, February 25, 2008: All applicants will be sent an email confirming all their application and reference materials have been received (or what is lacking). Applicants with completed files, who meet the minimum requirements will then be invited to participate in the RA Group Selection and Individual Interview Process on Saturday, March 1, 2008. Participation in the RA Group Selection and Individual Interview Process is a requirement to be considered for hire.
Wednesday, February 27, 2008: Applicants who have been invited to participate in the RA Group Selection and Individual Interview Process will need to RSVP in person in the Office of Residence Life (UC 232), and sign up for an Individual Interview time slot.
Saturday, March 1, 2008: RA Group Selection Process will take place in the morning (UC 221/227), with Individual Interviews occurring in the afternoon (Career Services Interview Rooms, UC 2nd floor). Participation in the RA Group Selection and Individual Interview Process is a requirement to be considered for hire.
Monday, March 17, 2008: Job offers for the 2008/09 academic year will be available for pick-up in the Office of Residence Life (UC 232). Letters need to be picked up no later than Monday, March 24, 2008 at 5:00pm.
Monday, March 24, 2008: Job offer acceptances are due in the Office of Residence Life (UC 232) no later than 5pm.
Friday, August 1, 2008: RAs report for move-in and Fall Training. (Due to the timing of training, RAs will not be able to take summer school session II, and are discouraged from taking the long session.)
RA Application Packet Contents
Resident Assistant Agreement: The Resident Assistant agreement outlines the requirements and description of the Resident Assistant position, including the amount of compensation. This copy of the RA Agreement is to be kept for your reference. If you are offered a RA position an agreement will be sent to you along with your offer letter. If you choose to accept the RA position you will then sign the agreement as notification of acceptance.
RA Application: There are five parts to the RA application.
- The first part is basic questions regarding your background and qualifications.
- The second part is a group of short and long essay questions referring to your interest in and knowledge of the RA position.
- The third and fourth parts are reference forms to be completed by any UT Tyler staff, faculty or advisor, and your current RA (or current employer if you live off campus).
- And the fifth and final part of the application is submitting an Official copy of your UT Tyler Transcript (or home institution if you are not currently enrolled at UT Tyler). All sections of the application are required for consideration of employment.
Reference Forms: At the end of the application are two reference forms. On each form, complete the top portion of the form before giving the form to your reference. Follow the instructions outlined on the reference forms as to who your references should be. Once you give the form to your reference he/she should return it to the Office of Residence Life (mailing address is listed on the reference form).
