University PinesWhy did I get a letter saying I’m assigned to University Pines?
Because of a contractual obligation with Century Property Management, we are required to assign students to University Pines before we assign them to either Patriot Village or Ornelas Residence Hall. However, students may reject the assignment to University Pines, in which case we will assign them to their choice of Patriot Village or Ornelas Residence Hall. In other words, student can still live in the facility they want, it just takes an extra step.

Am I required to have a meal plan?

On-campus residents are required to carry some form of meal plan. Patriot Village and University Pines residents are required to select one of the commuter meal plans. Ornelas Hall residents are required to carry a 10, 15, or 19 meal per week plan. For more information on the meal plans, please see the Patriot Village or Ornelas Hall sections of this FAQ.

Will my financial aid cover my rent?
Your rent for Patriot Village or Ornelas Hall will be added to your student account like any other charge from UT Tyler. This amount is charged per semester and is added at once. Your financial aid will then be applied to your account.

Residents of University Pines may receive a refund of financial aid above their university fees, and can pay that directly to University Pines. If you have questions about your financial aid, please contact the Financial Aid Office at (903) 566-7180.

Are pets allowed?
The only pets we allow are fish. Aquariums may be no larger than 20 gallons.

Inside Dorm RoomWhen will I get my room assignment?
We will start mailing assignments in July.

How do I pay for my room?
Your rent will be added to your student account. Rent is charged per semester, and the charges are at the top of this page. For information about accessing or paying your bill, please go the following website:

http://www.uttyler.edu/sbs/T&F_Home.htm

How will roommates be assigned?
We assign students based on the date we get their completed housing application. We attempt to put residents with roommates who are in the same major and year. Unless a student has requested a roommate, roommates are assigned randomly.

Is there a guarantee I can room with my chosen roommate?
The earlier you apply, the easier it will be to accommodate roommate requests. It is also easiest for us to accommodate these requests if you and your preferred roommate request each other on each housing application.

May I change my room assignment or the facility I’m assigned to?
We will begin accepting room/facility change requests beginning the 12 th class day. Please note that University Pines is a privately managed facility. If you are assigned to Patriot Village or Ornelas Hall, you cannot move to University Pines until your lease has expired.

Is there bus service from UT Tyler to the rest of Tyler?
The Tyler Transit System operates a bus system throughout Tyler. There is a bus stop across from the main entrance of UT Tyler on Omen Road. You can find out more information by calling (903) 533-8057, or by visiting the following link:

What are the visitation hours?
Patriot Village offers 24-hour visitation. Twenty-four hour visitation is a privilege that can be revoked if the University finds residents abusing it. Cohabitation, noise, roommate complaints, parties, etc. can lead to the suspension of this privilege and the installation of more restrictive visitation hours.

Ornelas Hall residents may have guests of the opposite sex in their rooms from 10 AM until 12 midnight, Sunday through Thursday. Friday and Saturday the hours are from 10 AM until 2 AM.
