UT Tyler Students Get Jump On Building Habitat House
Tyler Morning Telegraph / Megan Middleton, Staff Writer

Students from The University of Texas at Tyler construction management program are helping lead the effort to build a house for Habitat for Humanity and got a jump start on the work this week.

While the home will not be built until August, volunteers began pre-building the interior and exterior walls outside on the campus of UT Tyler on Tuesday.

The pre-building effort, which officials said will help make the building process safer and faster, will last through Thursday and is taking place between the Ratliff Building South and Ratliff Building North on campus.

"It gets us involved with the community," said Tim Ballard, the student leader of the project. "It gives us a good opportunity to get our service learning hours, which is part of our curriculum. We're helping somebody who is less fortunate to have a home.
