Ph.D. inHuman Resource Development Strategic Vision

The strategic vision for the PhD in Human Resource Development program at The University of Texas at Tyler (UTT) is to become recognized as one of the top five doctoral programs in the discipline by the year 2012.

This strategic vision and commitment to excellence is propelled by (1) HRD's prestigious position in the University and the College of Business and Technology, and (2) HRD's commitment to keeping research at the core through six strategic initiatives:

1. Create an Advisory Board.
Made up of corporate leaders and leading HRD scholars: Chaired by Dr. Richard A. Swanson, UTT Distinguished Research Professor of HRD.

2. Add Faculty Expertise.
Add highly respected and recognized HRD scholars to the UTT faculty; continue to build existing faculty expertise.

3. Establish a Business Academy.
Research partnerships with 3 funding sponsors in each Academy; field-based organizational research culminating in new knowledge and refereed publications.

4. Create a Regional Partnership.
Engage Tyler and East Texas leaders from the medical industry and economic development agencies in partnerships.

5. Engage the College of Business and Technology.
Key business and technology faculty (outside HRD) from the College of Business and Technology add expertise in the realms of business and socio-technical acumen.

6. Recruit High Quality Students.
Use Business Academy funding and organization-based research to attract the best full-time students from Texas and around the world.
