Principles of Technology Teacher Certification

Principles of Technology (PT) is an applied physics course designed for eleventh and twelfth grade students. In PT I students study force, work, rate, resistance, energy, power and force transformers. In PT II students study momentum, waves and vibrations, energy converters, transducers, radiation, optical systems, and time constants as applied to mechanical, fluid, thermal and electrical energy systems. The course reinforces the mathematics needed to understand and apply the principles under study.

Principles of Technology may be taught by:

  • a science teacher holding a high school certificate with a teaching field in physics or science composite;

  • a certified technology education teacher (previously industrial technology education,
    industrial arts) with 6 semester hours of college physics prior to the assignment;

  • All teachers assigned to teach principles of technology shall participate in a Texas Education Agency approved workshop for beginning principles of technology teachers prior to teaching the course.
