In December of 2017, Human Resources and Financial Services held a training for Budget Authorities and Support Staff. The topics included Exempt vs. Nonexempt, Payroll, FMLA, Recruiting, Purchasing, and Classifying Service Providers. Below is a link to the video as well as the PowerPoint presentation.
In March of 2017, the University Police Department held several sessions of Active Shooter training. We would like to thank UPD for putting in their time and effort to impart valuable information to our campus community. The live training is now concluded; however, the sessions were recorded and a video, as well as the PowerPoint, are posted below.
In spring of 2017, the Office of Human Resources was proud to present a training course entitled Appropriate Interviewing. The course was geared toward those who either have or currently are serving on hiring committees and included interview preparation, effective interview questions, evaluating candidate responses, and the laws affecting the interview process. The live training is now concluded; however, the sessions were recorded and a video, as well as the PowerPoint, are posted below. In fall of 2016, the Office of Human Resources was proud to present a training course for all employees, entitled Workplace Challenges: A Strategic Approach. This course covered best practices in dealing with difficult coworkers, how to successfully communicate and build a strong working relationship with your manager, how to move forward after a less than commendable performance evaluation or disciplinary write-up, bullying in the workplace and decreasing stress in the workplace. The live training is now concluded; however, the sessions were recorded and a video, as well as the PowerPoint, are posted below.

In spring of 2016, the Office of Human Resources was proud to present two managerial training courses for employees and managers. The first was entitled UT Tyler Managerial Fundamentals and covered FMLA, a review of several HOP policies most often referenced, the Ethics Hotline, the Department of Labor (DOL), Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) and how to handle bullying in the workplace. The second was entitled Building Upon your Managerial Skills and covered making the transition from individual contributor to manager, team building, difficult conversations, mediation, progressive disciplinary procedures and utilizing HR as a business partner. The live training is now concluded; however, the sessions were recorded and videos are posted below.
Budget Authority Training
Budget authority live training is held every other year for all campus budget authorities and their staff. The purpose of this training is to present an overview of the university's service and support departments, and provide an opportunity to meet and interact with leaders from these departments. This training is not meant to be a detailed technical training, but a general exposure to the service and support areas to familiarize our budget authorities with the people, responsibilities and key focus of these areas.
Budget authority live training for FY 16 – 17 is now concluded. Thanks to those of you who attended, and also to our presenters and their staffs who worked so tirelessly to make this a success for all involved.
