Looking for a book or article that UT Tyler doesn't own? Try our interlibrary loan service!

Currently enrolled UT Tyler students, faculty, and staff who are registered library users may use interlibrary loan (ILL).

Interlibrary loan is most frequently used to borrow books and order copies of articles that the UT Tyler's Libraries do not own. Items that usually cannot be obtained through interlibrary loan include reference books, materials in special or rare book collections, some dissertations and theses, and audiovisual materials. In addition, we do not order textbooks. If you have any doubts, please call us at 903.566.7396.

Before requesting an interlibrary loan item, search our library catalog for books or periodicals we own in print format. Check Find a Journal or Periodical for articles available online in a database. If what you need is not in the collection, order it through interlibrary loan! Ask for help at the Help Desk if you are unsure; don't waste your time ordering something we already own!

There are no charges for these services except when materials borrowed from another library incur charges. Charges of this type are passed on to the student/faculty/staff who requests these items. Please note that ILL staff will always search for free lenders first. If you have noted in your request that you are not willing to pay for the item and the ILL staff cannot locate a free lender, your request will be canceled and you will be notified via your UT Tyler email address.

However, if you do not return books on time, you will be charged a fine at the rate of $1.00 a day. This charge applies to all faculty, staff, and students - everyone!

You can request renewals by contacting the ILL office (903-566-7396) unless "no renewals" is listed as a restriction. It is up to the lending library to renew a book or decline your request. Renewals are not granted for overdue books so be sure to request your renewal a few days before the book is due.

The UT Tyler Libraries try very hard to maintain good working relationships with other libraries! It is important to return books on time or we jeopardize our ability to obtain materials in the future. Borrowers who disregard due dates will have their interlibrary loan borrowing privileges blocked and will be unable to check out material until all overdue items are returned.

Students, please use your Patriots email as your contact email. Faculty and Staff, please use your regular UT Tyler credentials.

If you need assistance with borrowing an item from another library, please contact our interlibrary loan office at 903.566.7396 or ill@uttyler.edu.
