13-100. General Provisions
Sec.
13-101. Definitions
a. In this chapter, unless the context requires a different meaning,
- "dean"
means the dean of student affairs and external relations, or the dean's
delegate or representative;
- "president"
means the president of The University of Texas at Tyler;
- "student"
means a person currently enrolled in residence at the university,
or who is accepted for admission or readmission to the university,
or who has been enrolled at the university in a prior semester or
summer session and is eligible to continue enrollment in the semester
or summer session that immediately follows, or who is attending an
educational program sponsored by the university while that person
is on campus;
- "university"
means The University of Texas at Tyler;
- "university
facility" means a classroom, auditorium, University Pines studentapartments,
other building, or outdoor area owned or controlled by the university;
- "weekday"
means Monday through Friday except for official university holidays;
"day" means calendar day;
- faculty
or staff means a current employee of The University of Texas
at Tyler.

13-200. Mission
Section 13-201.
Mission
a. The mission of the Student Testing Center is to provide students
with proctoring services of approved examinations through the administration
of correspondence examinations, the College-Level Examination Program
(CLEP) examinations, and standardized testing. Examinations are administered
to insure the security of the examination and with each students
particular needs in mind.
Section 13-202.
Access
a. An examination schedule is available in the university Schedule of
Classes booklet. These booklets are available in the Admissions Office,
at various other locations throughout the campus as well as in the Student
Services Center. A copy of the examination schedule is also sent to
each academic dean, the Registrar, and the Dean of Enrollment Management
at the start of each fall semester. The Testing Center is located in
the University Center, room 111.
Section 13-203.
Population Served
a. The Testing Center offers services to all currently enrolled and/or
fully matriculated students at the university. Testing is open to the
public for the following standardized examinations: ExCET, Law School
Admission Test (LSAT), Graduate Record Examination Subject Test (GRE
Subject Examinations), Miller Analogy Test (MAT), Foreign Service Officer
Examination, and ACT. In addition, the Testing Center will provide college-level
correspondence testing to the public on a space available basis.

13-300. Nature and Extent of Services Provided
Section 13-301.
Description of Services
a. National Standardized Examinations
- Paper/pencil tests include the Graduate Record Examination (GRE)
Subject tests only, the Law School Admission Test (LSAT), the Miller
Analogy Test (MAT), the Foreign Service Examination, the College Level
Exam Program (CLEP), the American College Testing Assessment (ACT).
- The GRE and
the GMAT are available only on computer at a designated site off campus.
- Other national
tests are administered as determined by university needs. Application
forms and specific dates for these and other tests are available in
the Student Services Center and the testing specialists office.
b. Texas Standardized
Examinations
- Paper/pencil tests include Quick TASP, and the Examination for Certification
of Educators in Texas (ExCET).
c. Correspondence
Tests
- Correspondence tests for courses taken from another university may
be administered to currently enrolled students for no additional charge.
d. Practice Tests
- Practice ExCET examinations are available for currently enrolled
students in the College of Education.Application information for this
test is available through the College of Education.
Section 13-302.
Fees and Hours
a.Fees vary
based on the individual examination and are subject to change. Each
examination has a general information sheet attached including current
fees.
b. The Testing Center

c. CLEP, MAT, and
correspondence examinations will be administered by appointment only
on a first-come first-served basis and a minimum of one week in advance
of the examination date. It is recommended that the examinee visit with
the testing specialist in person to make the examination appointment.

13-400. Delivery of Exam Scores
Section 13-401.
Examination Scores
a. The Testing Center does not receive the examination scores of any
examination. Examinations requested sent to the university, are received
in the Admissions Office or the Graduate Studies Office. Practice ExCET
scores are provided through the College of Education.

13-500. Procedure for Making Testing Appointments

Testing Appointments
a. Each examination has specific instructions regarding procedures that
must be followed relative to application, administration, grading, and
dissemination of results; therefore, it is recommended that the examinee
visit with the testing Specialist about these issues before their testing
appointment time.
b. When the student
requests a testing appointment, their name is placed in the appointment
book with a telephone or pager number where he/she can be contacted.
For appointments made in person, an appointment card is provided with
the name of the testing specialist and the date and time of the testing
session. All testing appointments are made on a first come first serve
basis and must be made at least one week prior to the test date requested.
The appointment book is located at the senior secretarys desk
during the day, or locked in a file cabinet at night. Only Student Service
personnel may make appointments for testing. Appointment books are not
to be viewed by anyone else, including student workers (see Student
Worker Introduction to the Student Counseling Center). Cancellations
less than 24 hours in advance and no-shows should be noted in the appointment
book, but not erased so that
this information may be used for statistical purposes.
Section 13-502.
Testing Procedures
a. Special instructions for each examination are strictly adhered to
as specified in the administration instructions provided by the sponsoring
testing agency (examples: Educational Testing Service sponsors the GRE,
National Evaluation Services sponsors the TASP).
b. Testing security
is maintained at all times to ensure the validity of test results.
c. Individual desk
space for each examinee is provided as indicated by the sponsoring testing
agency.
Subchapter 13-600. Special Accommodation Needs
Section 13-601.
Special Accommodations
a. The Testing Center will provide special accommodation to examinees
upon prior written approval from the sponsoring agency.It is the examinees
responsibility to assure that the Testing Center has received the appropriate
special accommodation information.The Testing Specialist will consult
with the disability support services counselor when specific accommodations
for testing are requested by the sponsoring testing agency.
b. The disability
support services counselor is responsible to approve requests for accommodation
for the Quick TASP and the math placement examination.(See Disability
Support Services Policies and Procedures.)
Subchapter 13-700. Evaluation of Testing Services
Section 13-701.
Evaluation of Services
a. Students will receive a satisfaction survey from the testing specialist
on the date of the scheduled examination.The student will be requested
to complete the survey upon completion of the exam. The survey may be
given to the Testing Specialist, dropped off in the Student Services
office or mailed (no postage necessary).
b. The testing specialist
reviews the surveys monthly in order to evaluate the effectiveness of
services. Information from the surveys will be used to update, expand,
and or improve the services offered through the Testing Center.

13-800. Record Maintenance
Section 13-801.
Record Maintenance
a. Confidential testing information is maintained in locked file cabinets
in the Testing Specialists or Director of Student Services offices.
Confidential testing information should not be left unattended in places
where anyone other that the Testing Specialist or Director of Student
Services may have access to them, this includes desktops and unlocked
drawers. All confidential information should be returned to the locked
file cabinets at the end of the day.
b. Only the Testing
Specialist or other personnel designated by the Director of Student
Services have access to confidential testing information. This information
may not be released to anyone unless authorized by the sponsoring testing
agency.
c. Confidential
testing information is kept according to the instructions of the sponsoring
testing agency.
