Selected Professional Activity

Administrative Experience 

Supervised and restructured departmental tenure, promotion, reappointment, and evaluation of personnel processes, including student evaluations and faculty peer observations.

Completed institutional five-year audit and review (December 1998), and the 10-year NASM (National Association of Schools of Music) Self Study Report (completed February 10, 2000).

Responsible for supervising the music curriculum, scholarships, new hires, recruiting, facilities and space, calendar, publicity, advising, alumni relations, budget, timetable scheduling, faculty development.

Scholarly Activities

Happiness, Success, and Freedom in the Educational Environment, a book that will be completed in summer 2000, applies directly to administration, involving creating a holistic and supportive environment in higher education. Survival in an academic environment, time management, and removal of inner stress in ways that balance the physical, mental and spiritual aspect of the teacher and the student will be discussed.

Developed diversity course and wrote 300-page textbook: Cultural Music of the Americas: Native American, African American, and Latin American Music. Incorporated into course Summer, 1997.

Active performer/recitalist on saxophone in the classical and jazz idioms for past 25 years. Appearances with Chuck Berry, Lloyd Price, the Penguins, Freddy Cannon, Herb Jeffries, Crystal Gayle, and the UWW Jazz Camp All-Stars - Steve Wiest, Denis DiBlasio, Frank Mantooth, Ed Peterson, Dave Mancini, Larry Gray, Paul McKee, Allen Johnson, and others.

Served on over 40 university committees, membership to 12 professional organizations.

Have given over 100 clinics, presentations, and adjudications at the college and high school level.

Recipient of three University of Wisconsin System Grants in the area of Cultural Music.

Honors/Awards 

Outstanding Faculty Award for African American Education for 1998-99.

Outstanding Service for the Department of Music, 1998-99, 1996-97.

Honoree at the 10th UWW Annual Scholarship and Creative Achievement Reception November 24, 1997.

Selected as a Wisconsin Teaching Fellow for the 1996-7 school year. Project: "Investigating Collaborative Strategies to Promote Active Learning in General Studies/Diversity Courses."

Outstanding and Dedicated Service to Latinos Award, 1995-96 year.
