Six will be given.  You will choose 3.

1.  Discuss the film/book "Groupthink."  What are 3 characteristics of Groupthink and what can be done to alleviate the problem?
 
2.   What is the Pygmalion Effect?  How may a manager be a positive Pygmalion?  Discuss two of the concepts from the film, "Productivity and Self-Fulfilling Prophecy."
 
3. Discuss three of the characteristics of  IN SEARCH OF EXCELLENCE.   Mention and give examples of companies in each of your three characteristics.
 
4.   Synthesize Situational Leadership Theory and another theory from the past.
 
5.  Discuss the film, "On the Line" regarding Japanese  management. Give 4 characteristics of Japanese management.
  6.  What are three types of teams and what are the advantages of teams?

7.  Give three principles having an effect on organizational structure.

8.  You have been asked to make a speech on innovative ideas and how to manage in the future.  What would you tell these managers. (Make your own assumptions but document).
 
10.  Situation:  How would you manage?
 
Your company was doing quite well until the last year.  It seems all of the employees see their job as boring and you feel many of them have the "burnout" syndrome.  You have built the company from scratch and want them to be productive.  What would you do?
 
11.  Situation:  How would you manage?      A woman of 55 years has been with the company since its opening 25 years ago.  The company now has new management and desires each employee (including Ms. Jones, Office Manager) to learn to use the PC and become fully automated.  She told them no and states she is able to get her work completed faster without a PC, and you can't teach old dogs new tricks."  What should you do.
 
12.  Situation:  How would you manage?       You are managing a group of 18-25 year old people who are assembling a  product.  It has become very difficult and you know they are "goofing off" when you are not around.  Also, there are some wise guys in the group.   What management technique(s) will you use?  You can't sleep at night from worrying.
 
13.  Which management theory or technique do you feel will be the most important to you in your managerial career.  Feel free to use any of the topics from papers, book summaries, or otherwise.
 
14. What are the basic styles of conflict resolution.  Draw the model and give an example.
 
 
16.   How is Organizational Culture created and what are the tools for transmitting culture.  Give at least 5 total factors.

17. List 3 organizational causes of stress and what 3 methods may be used to manage stress?

You have built the company from scratch and want your employees to be productive. What would you do?

20. Two types of leaders are discussed in your text: Transformational leadership and charismatic leaders. Take one of these and discuss the characteristics.

21. What are the stages of group development and what happens at each stage?

22.  Explain a type of organizational structure.  What is the basic advantage of the one you choose.
