Ceremony Marks Official Beginning of HKPE Construction

The campus community and guests gathered at UT Tyler March 25 to celebrate the official beginning of construction of the UT Tyler Health and Kinesiology Physical Education Complex.

The groundbreaking ceremony was held at the future location of the 127,500 square-foot academic and recreational facility.

"This is a great day, to be topped only by the grand opening in December 2003,'' said UT Tyler President Rodney H. Mabry, who presented opening remarks.

Patterson Named UT Tyler Interim Dean of Student Affairs

Dr. Howard Patterson will serve as the interim dean of student affairs and director of athletics at The University of Texas at Tyler, Dr. Dale Lunsford, vice president for student affairs and external relations, has announced.

Dr. Lunsford was the previous dean of students until his appointment to vice president in October 2001. Dr. Patterson has been director of athletics and assistant dean of student affairs since August 2001. More>>>


Nominations Accepted for 'Who's Who Among Students'

The Who's Who Among Students honors program is accepting nominations for the 2001-02 school year.

Nominations for Who's Who can be made by faculty, staff and students. Nomination letters and information forms will be distributed around campus via departmental offices and bulletin boards.

To begin the selection process, the person making the nomination should either give the student the preprinted information form or direct him or her to www.uttyler.edu/whoswho to fill out the form online.

UT Tyler to Present Broadway Musical 'Annie Get Your Gun'

The Broadway musical "Annie Get Your Gun" will take the stage Friday, April 12 at The University of Texas at Tyler R. Don Cowan Fine and Performing Arts Center, Susan Thomae-Morphew, Cowan Center director, has announced.

The performance is sponsored by Southside Bank and will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are available at the Cowan Center box office. Box office hours are 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

"Annie Get Your Gun" is based on the true story of Annie Oakley. It depicts Annie's big break into show business with her rifle markmanship. She joins Colonel Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show to be with Frank Butler, the man she fell in love with and the star of the Wild West Show. More>>>

first Athlete of the Month recently. More>>>

Preview Day to be Held April 13

University Preview Day will be 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Saturday, April 13, at UT Tyler.

Participants will have the opportunity to visit the Tyler campus, meet faculty, staff and students and ask college-related questions. More>>>

Recognized for five years of continuous service at the university is Janet A. Barger, assistant professor, College of Engineering and Computer Science, on April 1; and David M. Beams, assistant professor, College of Engineering and Computer Science, April 17.



construction updates

Health and Kinesiology Physical Education Building - Concrete piers poured during month of March. Construction projected to be completed by late 2003.

College of Nursing and Health Sciences Building - Bids have been received and are being reviewed.

Longview University Center parking lot - Bids are to open April 3 for construction of an 85-space, lighted parking lot.

Longview University Center monument signs - There will be two monument signs, one on each side of the entrance to the Longview campus.
