UT Tyler's
Nursing and Health Sciences Career Fair is scheduled for
9 a.m.-3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, in the Cowan Center lobby.
Students
and alumni will have the opportunity to network with companies/organizations
and practice their interviewing skills, with the goal of
securing a job. More than 30 companies and organizations

Tyler Appoints New Director of Longview University Center
Dr. Jolene
Lampton has been appointed the new director of the UT Tyler
Longview University Center, President Rodney H. Mabry announced.
Her position is effective Aug. 26.
Dr. Lampton succeeds Chris Heiden who is leaving the position
as of Aug. 31 to pursue a doctoral degree at the University

Hires New Special Events Manager/Alumni Coordinator
Dana
R. Khan has joined UT Tyler as special events manager/alumni
coordinator in the Office of University Advancement.
Her
responsibilities include planning and carrying out university
functions and special events in a variety of on- and off-campus
venues including fund-raising dinners and programs conducted

Computer
Science to Receive Funding for Research
UT
Tyler has been selected by the Computer Research Association
to receive funding for a Collaborative Research Environment
for Women in Undergraduate Computer Science and Engineering
project, Dr. Troy Henson, dean of the College of Engineering
and Computer Science, has announced.
The computer
science department will receive $2,250 for the project "Case-based
Reasoning: Rough Sets vs. Bayesian Networks.'' The UT Tyler
project was judged to be one of the best 19 of the 41 projects
submitted for consideration this year. More>>>

Dobrowalski
to Serve as Assistant Tennis Coach
Jay
Dobrowalski has accepted the position of assistant tennis
coach at UT Tyler.
Dobrowalski
is a veteran of open tournaments throughout California, most
notably the Ojai and Mammoth Open. He played league tennis
with the U.S. Tennis Association and was undefeated for three
years. Dobrowalski is certified with the U.S. Professional
Tennis Association and has taught tennis for several years,
including summer tennis camps. More>>>

Wednesday Film Series Begins Sept. 18 at UT Tyler
"Robert
Altman Directs
'' will be the theme of The University
of Texas at Tyler's Third Wednesday Film Series beginning
Sept. 18 at the R. Don Cowan Fine and Performing Arts Center,
Dr. James A. Hatfield, director of theatre, has announced.
The series
of independent, classic, documentary and foreign films is
a project of the UT Tyler Friends of the Arts and is sponsored
by the theatre department.
Featuring
films directed by Robert Altman, the fall 2002 series will
open Sept. 18 with "Gosford Park'' (2001, 137 minutes),
a part-comedy, part-mystery and part-societal expose set in

Dr.
Bruce Named Interim Dean of Education and Psychology
Dr.
William Bruce, professor of education, has been named interim
dean for the UT Tyler College of Education and Psychology,
Dr. David O'Keeffe, provost and vice president for academic
affairs, announced.
Dr.
Bruce replaces Dr. Mil Clark who was promoted to associate
vice president of academic affairs.
Dr.
Mark Lewis, associate professor of education, will assume
the position of interim associate dean for educator preparation
programs. Dr. Lisa Starnes, associate professor of education,
will serve as interim chair of the Department of Curriculum
and Instruction.

Library
Receives Funding to Provide Laptop Computers
UT Tyler's
Muntz Library has been awarded a grant to make laptop computers
available to students, faculty and staff.
The
library received a grant from the Telecommunications Infrastructure
Fund, which provides funding for telecommunications initiatives
and distance learning projects in schools, libraries and
hospitals throughout Texas. Additional funding was provided
by the UT Tyler Office of Academic Affairs.
Ten
laptop computers equipped with wireless network cards can
be checked out for use within the library, for three-hour
increments. The laptops provide access to the library's
catalog and electronic resources as well as the Internet.
They are configured with Windows 2000 and equipped with
MicroSoft Office Suite.

and a reorganization of the University of Texas System administration
Friday.
Searches
for new leaders for key offices in health affairs, academic
affairs, governmental relations, and community relations

Meadows
Gallery to Feature Works by Jim Pace
"Prayer
Flags,'' recent works by James Robert Pace, began Aug. 19
and continues through Oct. 1 at The Meadows Gallery.
The
exhibition is presented by the gallery and the UT Tyler
art program.
Pace
is a professor of art at UT Tyler, where he has taught since
1985. He holds master of fine arts degree from Arizona State
University and a bachelor of fine arts from the University

Lamb Appointed Director of Planned Giving
P.J.
Lamb has been appointed director of planned giving at UT Tyler,
Mary Untersee, vice president for university advancement,
announced.
The planned
giving program was designed and implemented in 2001 as a permanent
part of university advancement. Information regarding charitable
giving and tax benefits has been made available to the public.
In addition, The Heritage Society was established to recognize
and honor UT Tyler friends who arrange for the university
to receive a planned or deferred gift through an estate plan

- Construction began in December 2001 and is expected to be
completed in late 2003.
College
of Nursing and Health Sciences Building - Construction
work began in May. Projected completion date: July 2003.
Residence Hall - The
architect selected for the design of the residence house is
Simon Burch Clark & Merris (SBCM) of Tyler.
Longview University Center
parking lot - Work is ongoing and should be completed
in early September on an 85-space, lighted parking lot.
Longview University Center
monument signs - An agreement has been executed with
an architect. Construction specifications are being prepared
for request for proposal.
