Third Wednesday Film Series Begins
Sept. 18 at UT Tyler
"Robert
Altman Directs
'' will be the theme of The University of Texas
at Tyler's Third Wednesday Film Series beginning Sept. 18 at the
R. Don Cowan Fine and Performing Arts Center, Dr. James A. Hatfield,
director of theatre, has announced.
The series of
independent, classic, documentary and foreign films is a project
of the UT Tyler Friends of the Arts and is sponsored by the theatre
department.
Featuring films
directed by Robert Altman, the fall 2002 series will open Sept.
18 with "Gosford Park'' (2001, 137 minutes), a part-comedy,
part-mystery and part-societal expose set in 1932 England. The drama
contrasts the lives of the upstairs guests and the downstairs servants
during a weekend in the country.
Films will be
shown at 2:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. in Room 1009 (Braithwaite Recital
Hall entrance). Introductions will precede each showing. Season
tickets are $14; single tickets are $4. Admission will be free to
UT Tyler, Tyler Junior College and Texas College students with a
current student identification card. Seating is limited. For reservations

16, "MASH'' (1970, 116 minutes) - Altman's classic depiction
of a field hospital staff's offbeat humor and hilarity in an effort
to preserve their sanity and the joy of life amidst the horrors
of war.
Nov. 20,
"Come Back to the Five & Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean''
(1982, 109 minutes) - Altman's portrayal of the idolatry of James
Dean on the anniversary of his death by a group of his admirers
through scenes in the present and in flashback, revealing simple
truths in complicated lives.
Dec. 18,
"The Player'' (1992, 124 minutes) - An insider's look at
Hollywood through the mirror of a studio executive being blackmailed
by one of the many writers whose script he has rejected.
