Ring Ceremony Marks New Tradition

UT Tyler’s first ring ceremony was held Dec. 5, sponsored by the UT Tyler Alumni Association and the Office of Student Life.

During the event at Muntz Library, students were presented the new official UT Tyler ring, which features the university seal and an image of the Riter Carillon Tower as well as the year of graduation.

Professor Receives Accounting Educator Award

Dr. Mary Fischer with Outstanding Accounting Educator trophyDr. Mary Fischer, UT Tyler professor of accounting, was honored recently by the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants as one of the organization’s 2002 Outstanding Accounting Educators.

At a ceremony held during the TSCPA Accounting Education Conference, Fischer received a traveling trophy and a $1,000 award provided by the TSCPA Accounting Education Foundation. More>>>

UT Tyler Students Nominated for Theatrical Scholarships

Thirteen members of the UT Tyler student repertory acting company have been officially nominated to participate in the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival’s Irene Ryan Acting Scholarships competition.

Irene Ryan Scholarships provide recognition, honor and financial assistance to outstanding student performers. Each competitor must first be nominated from a participating or associate theatre production by an adjudicator or director before receiving an official nomination. More>>>

McAllister, student activities coordinator, and Lana Kay Smith, senior administrative assistant, Office of the Vice President for Business Affairs on Dec. 1; Sherry L. Morton, assistant director of financial services, on Dec. 15; and Mark A. Pierce, police officer, campus security, on Dec. 22.
