Art Students Participate in Food Bank Drive

UT Tyler advanced ceramic art students are participating in a North Texas Food Bank drive by making more than 150 bowls for the Empty Bowls project.

The Fourth Annual Empty Bowls luncheon will be 11 a.m.- 1 p.m. Feb. 22 at the Meyerson Symphony Hall in Dallas. Area restaurants will provide soup and bread to be served in handmade bowls to those who make a contribution to the food bank. The contributors will get to keep the bowls, which are being donated by Texas ceramic artists.

Students in Gary Hatcher's Advanced Ceramics Class made 10 bowls each for the project.

"This project helped students develop their throwing abilities as well as make a meaningful contribution to a worthy cause,'' said Hatcher, associate professor and Art Program coordinator. "This is the third year students have participated in the project, and I think we will make it an annual event.''

The Empty Bowls luncheon will feature music from the Dallas Symphony Orchestra's Young Strings.
