Ballet Company to Perform 'Spartacus' at UT Tyler

Spartacus


The Grigorovich Ballet Company will perform the drama "Spartacus" as a part of the Performing Arts Series at The University of Texas at Tyler R.Don Cowan Fine and Performing Arts Center, Susan Thomae-Morphew, Cowan Center director, has announced.

The three-act ballet is sponsored by The Vaughn Foundation and will begin at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19. Tickets are $25, $35 and $45 and are available at the Cowan Center box office. Box office hours are 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Dr. Mabry Elected to Leadership Position With Accrediting Agency

Dr. MabryDr. Rodney H. Mabry, president of The University of Texas at Tyler, has been elected to the Commission on Colleges of the regional accrediting association, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), James T. Rogers, executive director of the Commission on Colleges, announced.

Commissioners are charged with preparing a statement of standards for institutional membership, recommending membership dues assessments; conducting reviews and taking final action on the accreditation of collegiate institutions; reviewing reports from appointed study committees; and overseeing the work of the commission's administrative staff. Debate Team Competes at Louisiana Tournament

Results of the UT Tyler debate team's participation in the Mardi Gras Madness Debate Tournament have been announced.

The tournament was Feb. 8-10 at McNeese State University in Lake Charles, La. Students from 11 colleges and universities in Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi participated. More >>>

 

Writing Center Announces Spring Schedule

Spring semester hours for the UT Tyler Writing Center are:

Tyler campus (BUS 202) - 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday-Wednesday; 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. and 3-9 p.m. Thursday; 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday; and 1-5:30 p.m. Sunday. The center is closed on Saturday.

Longview campus - 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesday and noon-5 p.m. Thursday.

Appointments are encouraged. Call 565-5995 for the Tyler campus and 663-8218 for Longview. Tutoring is available by fax and e-mail. Visit www.atthat.com/tyler/wc

Employee Advisory Council Outlines Issues

SAN ANTONIO - The Employee Advisory Council of the University of Texas System plans to spend this year researching issues such as tuition and fee assistance for employees and their dependents, ways of easing the parking crunch at various institutions and monetary and non-monetary compensation practices.

Those and other issues were outlined by council members during the group's annual meeting with the Board of Regents on Feb. 13. More>>

Staff Development Workshop Set for Wednesday and Thursday

The University Staff Advisory Council will host a staff development workshop on customer service Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 20 and 21, at Rivercreek Farm and Ranch Center in Tyler.

The workshop is free of charge for UT Tyler full-time administrative, professional and classified staff. The day-long event, to be held 8:15 a.m. -4:30 p.m., will be offered twice so all employees will have an opportunity to attend. More >>>

High School Students to Take on Scrap Pile Challenge

The University of Texas at Tyler College of Engineering and Computer Science will host the Second Annual Scrap Pile Challenge for junior and senior high school students Wednesday, Feb. 20, in observance of National Engineers Week, Dr. Jeffrey Mountain, assistant professor of mechanical engineering, announced.

"Without Engineers the World Stops'' is the theme of National Engineers Week 2002, to be celebrated Feb. 17-23.

UT Tyler to Host 'Fashion Explosion' Feb. 23

The University of Texas at Tyler Office of Student Activities will host "A Fashion Explosion'' at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at UT Tyler's University Center, Ernest McAllister, student activities coordinator, announced.

The fashion show, presented by DMS Production of Dallas, will feature original designers, models and dancers from the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

'Retirement in View' Topic of Upcoming Workshop

The UT Tyler Office of Human Resources will host "Retirement in View,'' a financial planning workshop, noon-1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, in UC 118.

The workshop, led by Sean Conti, certified retirement planning counselor with Fidelity Investments, will highlight the new Economic Growth and Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2001 (EGTRRA) and provide valuable insights into planning for retirement. More >>>
