In The Spotlight Several UT Tyler faculty members served as role models during the annual Expanding Your Horizons conference sponsored by the American Association of University Women-Tyler Branch. The conference, held Feb. 16 at Tyler Junior College, was designed to encourage junior high school girls to pursue careers in math and science. Role models from UT Tyler included: Dr. Christine Hailey, chair and professor of mechanical engineering, conducted three workshops entitled “Wind and Wings and Flying Things.’’ Nursing faculty members Becky Cheek, Belinda Deal, Kathy Deardorff, Dr. Gloria Duke, Helene Hakim, Dr. Debbie Mahoney, Becky Sacrey, Donna Stevens and Debbie Waldrop presented a workshop entitled “Nurses Call the Shots.’’ Gayle Ferrell, assistant director of the East Texas Tech Prep Consortium, which is housed at UT Tyler, served as co-chair of the event.
