Campus Community Should be Aware of Bacterial Meningitis Symptoms
Information is being provided to all new college students in
the state of Texas about bacterial meningitis, a serious and
potentially deadly disease that can progress extremely fast.
Bacterial
meningitis is an inflammation of the membranes that surround
the brain and spinal cord. The bacteria that causes meningitis
can also infect the blood.

Tyler Experiences Record Spring Semester Enrollment
The University
of Texas at Tyler has recorded the largest spring enrollment
in the university's history, President Rodney H. Mabry has
announced.
Official spring enrollment figures after the 12th class day
are 3,807 headcount, a 12.8 percent increase over 2001, and
35,613 semester credit hours, a 10.5 percent increase over

Barbara McClellan, senior administrative assistant, is the
UT Tyler Star Employee for the month of February. She is pictured
with Dr. Rodney Mabry, UT Tyler president. McClellan retired
last week, after more than 26 years at Tyler State College,
Texas Eastern University and UT Tyler.

Tyler Hosts Religion Seminar

Dr. Michael Dent, senior pastor of Marvin United Methodist
Church, serves as moderator during the religion seminar Jan.
29 at UT Tyler's Braithwaite Recital Hall. "Myth, Message
and Meaning of Islam, Christianity and Judaism" was the
theme of the seminar focusing on the Islamic faith and offering
explanations of Islamic, Catholic, Protestant and Judaic religions.
The event featured a panel of religious leaders and included
a question and answer period.

The UT Tyler Office of Student Life is accepting applications
for summer 2002 freshman orientation leaders, Shaune Martinez,
student development specialist, has announced.

Tyler Recognizes Graduate Students During School Counselor
Week
The University
of Texas at Tyler Department of Psychology recognized 13 graduate
students in observance of National and Texas School Counselor
Week Feb. 4-8, Dr. Shirley Jones, associate professor of counseling
education, has announced.
The students
are employed as counselors by many East Texas area school
districts. All 13 are completing their master's program/degrees
in school counseling with enrollment in the "capstone"
course Supervised School Practicum. More>>>


Ken
Olivier, head tennis coach, made a 45-minute presentation
about athletics and tennis during a Kiwanis meeting Jan. 22
at First Christian Church of Tyler. About 45 people attended
the event.

Academic Enrichment Center Presents 'How
To' Seminars
The UT Tyler Academic Enrichment Center is again hosting the
"How To Series'' brown-bag seminars.
Open to
everyone, the presentations are noon to 1 p.m. on Wednesdays
in the Academic Enrichment Center, located in Room 102 of
the University Center. Participants can bring their lunches.
Drinks and dessert will be provided.
